Minimum of three years of commercial or industrial experience in installing, troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance of high pressure pumps, compressors, drives, conveyors and other types of mechanical equipment.  Must be able to work from prints, O.& M. manuals, schematics and specs.  Should have welding, millwright, plumbing and/or pipefitting skills.  Must be physically capable of performing very heavy lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and extensive walking and stair/ladder climbing.  Must possess a valid New Jersey driver's license. Assistant Project Coordinator Intern 

 

 This is a paid internship

Under the direction of the Projects Department Manager, the Assistant Project Coordinator Intern will work with other members of the department in their daily duties supervising and assisting in the completion of major infrastructure/process equipment upgrades. For projects in the design phase, this includes the review/familiarization with contract drawings and specifications, coordination of access to areas required to create said drawings/specifications, and working with the other members of the Joint Meeting staff in conveying their notes/comments to the engineer as the design progresses.  For projects that are in the construction phase, these duties include the writing of daily progress reports/taking progress photos, walkthroughs of the various project sites to ensure quality of construction and compliance with safety procedures, and coordination between the other Joint Meeting departments and the onsite Engineer/General Contractor to obtain access to various areas and isolation of equipment throughout the plant as required by the contract.

Mechanical Maintenance Intern


This is a paid internship.

Under the direction of the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, the Mechanical Maintenance Intern, will work alongside Mechanics in the repair and maintenance of Plant equipment, learn trade skills in Welding, Machining, and Plumbing, and assist in Project Planning and Procedure with the goal of acquiring hands on practical knowledge to expand their understanding of Industry concepts and theories used. Duties will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Participate in Mandatory Safety Training
  • Comply with all Safety Requirements and Procedures
  • Communicate with Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor and Maintenance Crews
  • Navigate Equipment O&M Manuals, Develop Parts Lists, and Help Establish PM Schedules
  • Read and Understand Equipment Blueprints
  • Utilize Precision Measuring Instruments, such as Calipers, Dial Indicators, and Micrometers
  • Perform Equipment Failure Analysis

Electrical Technician Intern

This is a paid internship.
Under the direction of the Electrical Supervisor, the Electrical Technician Intern will assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of de-energized electrical systems and components. Support electrical technicians in conducting diagnostic tests to identify and troubleshoot electrical issues. Learn to interpret technical drawings, diagrams, and schematics to assist in project implementation. Observe and assist in the assembly and testing of electrical equipment and machinery through the use of various tools and equipment. Document work performed, including test results and equipment maintenance records while demonstrating the ability to learn and apply new skills in a fast-paced work environment. Candidates should possess the following:

  • Currently pursuing a degree or certification in electrical technology, electronics, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of electrical principles and concepts.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges.

10/11/2023 Instrumentation Foreman

The Joint Meeting of Essex and Union Counties, a Wastewater Treatment Facility in Elizabeth, NJ is seeking a full-time Instrumentation Foreman to work with team members within the Electrical  Department, as well as with operational team members in other departments.

Under the direction of the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of all instrumentation systems and devices as well as Remote Terminal Units associated with SCADA systems.  Provides a preventative maintenance program that will include all periodic inspection, testing, adjustment, calibration and servicing activities necessary to assure the proper operation of process instrumentation and control systems, coordinates with JM Operation and Information Technology Department and provides assistance as directed. 

  • High school or equivalency degree, and two years of technical college or equivalent experience.
  • Possession of a valid N.J. Board of Electrical Contractors License preferred.
  • Possession of Appropriate Instrument Society Certification(s)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of industrial electrical equipment including but not limited to, cogeneration equipment, large electrical equipment, transformers, air compressors, actuators, motor control centers, PLCs, variable frequency drives, distribution systems and all other electrical and instrumentation devices similar to those used in wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Candidates must possess and maintain a valid NJ driver’s license.
  • Applicant shall have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • May be required to work additional hours as the workload dictates. Must be on call 24 hours a day.

    01/26/24           Electrician Joint Meeting of Essex & Union Counties,(www.jmeuc.com.) a Wastewater Treatment facility located in Elizabeth, NJ, is seeking a full time, permanent Electrician to work with team members within the Electrical Department as well as with operational team members in other departments.   Under the direction of the Electrical Supervisor, the qualified candidate must possess knowledge of industrial/commercial electrical circuitry and control systems, be able to read and follow schematics, comprehend wiring diagrams and prints and be familiar with approved methods. Candidate must be knowledgeable in NEC code requirements and safety standards.

The ideal candidate shall possess a minimum of 4 Years electrical experience, preferably in a wastewater or industrial environment. Candidate should have a valid NJ Electrical license (preferred), at a minimum, Qualified Journeyman Certificate. A valid NJ driver’s license is required.  Position is represented by Teamsters Local 641.

Salary range  $35.57 ($73,985) to $43.76 ($91,020)

1/26/24 Site Services Worker  Joint Meeting of Essex and Union Counties, a Wastewater Treatment Facility in Elizabeth, NJ is seeking a Full time Site Services worker. 

Performs janitorial/custodial, general housekeeping, washing windows, vacuuming, mopping, floor stripping and waxing, polishing, landscaping, grounds keeping, laborer, carpentry, plumbing, and masonry duties requiring skill in the use of power tools, such as, but not limited to: saws, drills, routers, planes & sanders. Be able to operate heavy equipment, such as, but not limited to: backhoe, load lugger, tractor, trucks and other standard shift vehicles. Installations and repairs using various epoxies, mastics, joint compound, industrial caulking, primers and paints.

Performs repairs, replacement of hardware, locks, closers, hinges, glass, frames access panels, roof hatches docks etc. Uses asphalt patch products, sealers and various repair products. Uses hand and power tools such as shovels, rakes wheel barrels, rollers, grinders, jack hammers, trowels, rakes, etc. Mixes, pours and floats cement, mortar and concrete, plasters and lays brick and block. 

Communicates effectively and coherently both orally and in writing with internal staff, coworkers, external contacts, visitors and the public. Performs routine mathematical calculations such as but not limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication, division using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Must be physically able to perform work activities that require constant heavy lifting, bending, pulling, stretching, carrying, walking, etc. in an environment that may be dusty, dirty, or pollen-laden, with extremes of temperature.  Schedule is Monday through Friday from 0630 hours to 1500 hours.  Some overtime and on-call hours are required. 

Qualifications

  • Must possess and maintain a valid N.J. driver's license.
  • High School diploma or equivalency required
  • Trade School diploma preferred or obtain within 2 years of hire. 
  • Vocational courses in carpentry and masonry preferred
  • Five (5) years of related work experience required in buildings and grounds that may include, but not be limited to construction, plumbing, carpentry, masonry and other related trades

Operations Shift Supervisor










The Joint Meeting of Essex & Union Counties, a Wastewater Treatment facility located in Elizabeth, NJ, is seeking a full-time Operational Shift Supervisor.

Description: 

Under the direction of the Manager of the Operations Department, the qualified candidate will supervise and coordinate the activities of the plant operators during the assigned rotating shift, and will be responsible for monitoring the plant operation and process.

Qualifications: 

  • Candidate must possess a High School degree or GED, College degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field preferred.
  •  Minimum 3 years experience in a wastewater treatment plant operations department plus 3 years supervisory experience.
  •  Satisfactory completion of NJDEP certified basic and advanced wastewater operations courses required.
  • Possession and maintenance of a minimum of an S-1 license required or ability to obtain same within one year from the date of hire.
  • A valid driver’s license is required. 
  • Applicant shall have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to all levels of employees.
  • Applicants who possess an equivalent combination of education and experience listed above may be considered.
